Transfers

Looking to move? We currently have homes in several major markets across the U.S.

Keep in mind that not all leases allow you to transfer to a different Common home. Please check your lease to verify what’s allowed per your unique agreement, or reach out to us at members@common.com for more information.

Transfer Guidelines

  • Please note that transfers are subject to a fee which varies by home. This fee covers the cost of administration and preparing each unit to be move-in ready. The fee does not apply if your transfer coincides with the renewal of your lease.

  • If you live in a traditional (non-coliving) unit, you cannot transfer to another Common home until the end of your current term.

  • You must give us at least 30 days notice for a transfer. This means your new agreements must be signed 30 days prior to your move.

  • You cannot transfer to a lower-priced unit if transferring in the middle of your term.

  • If you have an outstanding balance, you may not transfer until you’ve paid the balance.

  • If you are looking to transfer to a room with higher rent, you may be subject to a financial re-verification.

  • You may only transfer after 30 days into your current occupancy.

  • You may only transfer if your term is for more than 90 days. If you are on a 3-month term, you are unable to transfer.

  • You may not transfer within 60 days of the end of your term unless the transfer coincides with a renewal of your membership.

  • Any concessions granted during your original lease signing will not transfer over to your new unit. This is because concessions are granted by the respective building owner with the specific home and unit in mind. If you are transferring prior to the end of your term, you will need to repay any concessions on your current lease.

  • You may need to sign on for different term lengths, since lease terms vary by home and sometimes by suites within the same home. You cannot shorten your term length via a transfer.

  • All concessions must be paid before you are eligible for a transfer.

Due to agreements made with neighborhood associations as well as our development partners, there are certain restrictions regarding transfers that are home-specific, in addition to the guidelines stated above.
